The extension as seen in Dreamweaver

We hate spam!

This extension encodes the whole 'mailto:' <A HREF into decimal code, making it difficult for e-mail address robots to capture your e-mail links when scanning your HTML pages.

We are not saying this will work forever, but a single scan looking for '@' will not work when this method is used.

We have tested this on the prime browsers (IE & NS) and both browsers decodes the links without problems.

In fact it works so well that our description of the extension on the Macromedia site reads "Mailto: becomes "mailto:" when it should have read "Mailto:" becomes "mailto&#58"

Do a "view source" on this page to see the code of the link below.

Putting non url text or non-english text in and trying to encode it has not been tested, please use at your own risk.

FYI: OK, the default link text & URL is a little obnoxious, so go into the file "Encoded E-Mail Link.htm" in the "Configuration\Objects\Common\" folder and edit it to whatever you want as a default.

June 13, 2003 : Update note re MX.

I figured out how to change those fields in your encoded e-mail link.
Yes, you were right, the file was located in the dreamweaver MX directory -
C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX\Configuration\Objects\Common\Encoded E-Mail Link.htm.
Initially, when I opened the html file, it wouldn't let me save...and the save as function failed to work when I encoded a link in DMX.
Soo, I just viewed the html's source in notepad, made the necessary changes, and viola! it worked.
